All street lighting in Kings Gate Estates is generated using 100% solar technology.
The street lights house solar cells on top of the light that charge technologically advanced
Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries that power each lamp for up to 12 hours. Each lamp houses 51 super bright, high output, white LEDs. These lamps produce enough light to illuminate the street below for up to a 30’ radius. |
Water Conscious Landscaping
When planning a green development water conservation is the number 1 priority. Kings Gate Estates has enlisted the latest Xeriscaping concepts when planning our green areas and amenities. Drought resistant grasses and plants along with sustainable hardscapes are used in our landscaped areas. The fountain uses recycled water and Energy Star pumps. The use of mulches and drip irrigation techniques reduces the water demand of our trees.
Chip Seal Roads
Construction of roads creates a huge demand on our natural resources and requires a large carbon footprint. When comparing the traditional construction material of concrete versus chip seal it’s no contest that chip seal is the choice for green developments. Unlike concrete roads, chip seal roads are completely sustainable. When concrete roads fail the only choice for repair is to completely remove the old road and install new concrete. When a chip seal road begins to fail the only repair required is to replace the surface of the road. Chip seal roads use 100% recyclable materials unlike concrete that ends up in our landfills when removed. Resent studies have shown that the installation of a new chip seal road requires an ecological footprint that is 60% less than a new concrete road and to repair a chip seal road requires an ecological footprint that is 95% less than a concrete road. Chip seal roads require 20% less fossil fuels to construct than concrete roads which means less production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. A chip seal road also reduces the Heat Island Effect by improving solar reflectance of the road. Reducing the urban Heat Island Effect can benefit air quality, lower air conditioning needs, and enhance human health and comfort. Using chip seal pavements also helps to improve water quality, noise, safety, and nighttime illumination. The asphalt emulsion used to bond chip seal roads is produced by recycling old tires that would otherwise end up in our landfills.
Aerobic Septic Systems
Each home in Kings Gate Estates uses an aerobic septic system that collects the waste water used by the household and using a natural process breaks down the waste collected. The processed water is then used to irrigate the homeowner’s lawn thereby reducing the demand for clean water that we get from our local water district.
Propane
Homes in Kings Gate Estates use propane to heat the household, heat water and to cook with. Buried propane tanks are conveniently located for easy access for filling but are buried below ground for ascetics. Because propane burns cleaner, works harder, and operates smarter, choosing propane means you can help reduce greenhouse emissions, save energy, and protect the environment.
Green Homebuilding
Each of our homebuilders use green building practices that includes highly efficient blown foam insulation in the attics and walls, radiant barriers at the rooftops, energy efficient HVAC systems, low-e windows, and Energy Star appliances. The homes in Kings Gate Estates typically will use between 30% - 70% less energy that an equivalent house built with traditional home building materials.
